REACTIONISM 1991:

GARY SILVERBERG IS ONE OF THE FOUNDING MEMBERS OF THE REACTIONSIM MOVEMENT IN ART. THIS MOVEMENT ORIGINALLY REQUIRED IT'S FOLLOWERS TO DO THEIR ART ONLY DURING THE HEAT OF THE EMOTION THAT WAS TO BE REPRESENTED.  SOME 15 YEARS LATER THEY  BELIEVE THAT CERTAIN STATES OF MIND BECOME EMBEDDED IN THE PSYCHE AND ARE THEREFORE RELEVANT EVEN AFTER THE ORIGINAL ENCOUNTER.  THIS MATURING IS REFLECTED IN GARY'S CURRENT WORK IN OIL. A REACTION TO THE DAY TO DAY BUT INFORMED BY A DEEPER FEELING OF HE MORAL AND PHILOSOPHICAL DILEMMAS THAT RAGE WITHIN.
